The Wait is Over: Kenworth’s W990 Hits the Road and Receives High Praise at Initial Dealer Visits

KIRKLAND, Wash., Nov. 5, 2018 – With two Kenworth W990 Road Tours now underway, customers are getting a first-hand look at the new model, fitted with either the 76-inch mid-roof sleeper or as a day cab.

As part of the Road Tours, Kenworth dealers offer customers an exclusive showing of the truck, provide food, and open up the hood of the W990 for an up-close look at the power behind the truck – the PACCAR MX-13 engine.

At the Road Tour’s first stop in Atlanta, around 400 people attended the event to get their first look at the Kenworth W990, according to Chad Wheeler, MHC Kenworth – Atlanta new truck sales manager. “I thought we had a great turnout at the event,” said Wheeler. “We got all positive feedback from customers. The air cleaners and long-hood really caught the attention of a lot of our customers.”

At the Road Tour’s second stop in Port Allen, Louisiana, dedicated customers attended the event for their first glimpse of the W990 in-person. “We had a good turnout. Our customers really liked the look of the truck, and they were impressed by the sleeper and the amenities inside. The Limited Edition interior, from the embroidered W990 logo to the Royal Blue stitching on the steering wheel, was a nice touch,” said Mark Kasserman, Kenworth marketing director at Kenworth of Louisiana. “Our customers have been really pleased with the bold look of the W990. The W990 builds off the vintage look that everyone enjoys from the W900L. The chrome grille really stands out. It’s a beautiful truck.”

More aerodynamic than the W900L, the W990 provides a distinct fuel economy benefit, and gives customers a truck that also captures a classic, traditional look – a real driver’s truck.

“I think Kenworth got it right,” said Brenden Young, MHC Kenworth – Des Moines, Iowa, assistant service manager. “It’s a great-looking truck. Our customers were pleased with the detail Kenworth put into the new model. Some customers mentioned how they liked the lights in the hood. That was a nice addition.”

When the W990 rolled up to Papeì Kenworth Northwest in Lakewood, Washington, Rick Barry, Northwest Territory manager was impressed with the truck. “I thought the truck looked even better in person than it did in the brochure,” said Barry. “And that’s saying something!” Customers had their opportunity to step in the W990 sleeper and day cab trucks and see for themselves the quality and attention to detail Kenworth put in developing the truck.

“It truly is a beautiful truck,” said Joel Rodriguez, who works for Big Rigs Tanker Service. “We currently run six W900s in our fleet and love them. The W990 is a bold, new and innovative look for Kenworth. Kenworth produces great trucks and I know this truck will be no different.”

The two tours will continue through November 16. Tour #1 features two W990 tractors equipped with 76- inch mid-rood sleeper. Tour #2 features a W990 with a 76-inch mid-roof sleeper and a W990 as a day cab.
